Horns put 10 on the board against SAC

Goals:
Caroline Suter ( 1’, 4’, 13’ ); Jordan Peddicord ( 2’, 6’ ); Diana Charrier ( 9’ ); Shireen Salahshoor ( 17’ ); Emily Baker ( 32’, 50’, 62’ )

The UT Lady Longhorns continued their success from Week 1, improving their record to 2-0 with a lopsided 10-0 win over conference opponent San Antonio College. The Horns, for the second straight game, scored within the first minute of the game. Twenty seconds after the kick-off, Caroline Suter, who started in place of injured forward Sissy Danna, netted her first of three goals on the way to one of two hat tricks for the Longhorns.

By the 15th minute of the game, the Longhorns had already racked up six goals. Suter, with three, and Diana Charrier scoring one, also adding an assist. The other two goals came off the foot of sophomore outside-mid Jordan Peddicord. Peddicord, who tore her ACL and meniscus last September, played in her first competitive game last week against the University of Houston. She spent the off-season working tirelessly to rehab her knee, and get back in shape to be ready for this soccer season. Peddicord looks to be regaining her form, having had two strong performances in the first two games. She will only get better, and should be have a big impact on the team’s quest to win Nationals.

Because of the intense heat (temperatures rising near 100 degrees), the Longhorns utilized all of their available subs. That had no effect on UT’s ability to score. The Horns put away four more goals by the 62nd minute. Junior Shireen Salahshoor scored her first goal of the year in the 17th minute, making the score 7-0. The last three goals were spread out, but all of them were scored by Emily Baker. The second Lady Longhorn with a hat trick on the day.

San Antonio College’s Women’s Club team, in their first year of existence, were clearly no match for the high powered Longhorns. However, the players for UT seemed to keep their focus and intensity up throughout the game, even while winning by ten goals. For the majority of the second half, Coach Mimbela had his team work on ball possession, passing, and playing the wide areas in anticipation for tougher competition yet to come.

The University of Texas has now scored fourteen goals, by eight different players in two games. All while not conceding one goal.

UT’s next game is Saturday, September 18th, at Lamar University near Beaumont, Texas at 3 P.M.

Player(s) of the Game:
- The whole team played extremely well, as they should have against a less talented team. Their were plenty of players who excelled during the game, but a special note should go out to Emily Baker and Caroline Suter for each attaining hat tricks.
